Black Bean Burgers

These Black Bean Burgers are a delicious and healthy alternative to traditional beef burgers. Enjoy them with your favorite burger toppings and a side of fries or salad.


Ingredients

  • 2 small or 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 carrots or potatoes, grated
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp coriander
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 2 cans black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1/2 cup quick oats
  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce

Method

  1. In a frying pan, heat some oil and sauté onions, garlic, salt, and pepper until caramelized.
  2. Add grated carrots or potatoes, cumin, coriander, chili powder, and cayenne pepper to the pan. Cook until the vegetables are softened.
  3. In a large bowl, mash the black beans, and then mix in soy sauce and quick oats.
  4. Combine the cooked onion and vegetable mixture with the black bean mixture, and mix well.
  5. Form the mixture into patties and place them on a wax paper-lined tray.
  6. Freeze the patties for at least 30 minutes to help them hold their shape.
  7. When ready to eat, heat some oil in a frying pan and cook the patties until browned on both sides and heated through.
