These Black Bean Burgers are a delicious and healthy alternative to traditional beef burgers. Enjoy them with your favorite burger toppings and a side of fries or salad.
Ingredients
- 2 small or 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 carrots or potatoes, grated
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1/2 tsp coriander
- 1/2 tsp chili powder
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
- 2 cans black beans, rinsed and drained
- 1/2 cup quick oats
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
Method
- In a frying pan, heat some oil and sauté onions, garlic, salt, and pepper until caramelized.
- Add grated carrots or potatoes, cumin, coriander, chili powder, and cayenne pepper to the pan. Cook until the vegetables are softened.
- In a large bowl, mash the black beans, and then mix in soy sauce and quick oats.
- Combine the cooked onion and vegetable mixture with the black bean mixture, and mix well.
- Form the mixture into patties and place them on a wax paper-lined tray.
- Freeze the patties for at least 30 minutes to help them hold their shape.
- When ready to eat, heat some oil in a frying pan and cook the patties until browned on both sides and heated through.
