Enjoy Loluama’s Self-Saucing Chocolate Pudding warm, with its deliciously gooey sauce and tender sponge!


  • 1 cup self-raising flour
  • 3/4 cup white sugar (use less if desired)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/3 cup cocoa, divided
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 60g margarine, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 3 tsp instant coffee powder (optional)


  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (356°F).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, white sugar, salt, and 2 tablespoons of cocoa.
  3. Add the milk, melted margarine, and vanilla to the dry ingredients. Mix well.
  4. Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish.
  5. In a separate mug, combine the brown sugar and the remaining cocoa. Mix with a fork, breaking up any lumps, then sprinkle the mixture evenly over the pudding.
  6. If using instant coffee powder, dissolve it in the boiling water.
  7. Carefully spoon the boiling water (or coffee mixture) over the pudding to cover the top.
  8. Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the sponge is cooked and the sauce is bubbly.
