Enjoy the scones on the same day, or freeze them for later use.
Ingredients
- 3 cups (450g) flour
- 6 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 3 tbsp (50g) margarine
- 1 ¼ cups (300ml) plant milk
Method
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (356°F).
- In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Rub the margarine into the dry mixture with your fingertips until it resembles fine breadcrumbs.
- Gradually pour in the plant milk, stirring with a knife to form a firm, sticky dough. Adjust the milk quantity as needed.
- Lightly flour your work surface and turn out the dough onto it. Press the dough flat until it is about 3cm thick.
- Use a glass to stamp out dough circles and place them on a lightly floured baking tray.
- Bake for about 15 minutes or until lightly browned.
Optional: Cinnamon Scones
- In a small bowl, mix 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon, and 1/4 cup desiccated coconut.
- Spread the mixture onto the flattened dough, then roll it up before cutting and baking as described above.
